Writing messages
Every chat view has one message box at the bottom. Type and press Enter to send. To write you need to be signed in on the platform; see Accounts and signing in.
The message box
Section titled “The message box”- Enter sends. There is no send button.
- Ctrl+L puts you in the message box of the chat in front, from anywhere in the window.
- The grey text in the empty box says where the message will go, such as “Message examplestreamer” or “Message on Twitch and Kick”.
- While you type, a counter shows the length and the limit, such as “42/500”. It turns red past the limit, and Enter does nothing until the message is short enough.
- Your message goes out as the platform’s sending account (see Several accounts on one platform).
Choosing where a message goes
Section titled “Choosing where a message goes”In a view with more than one platform, small platform buttons sit beside the box. A lit button, in the platform’s colour, means the message goes there. Click a button to turn it on or off. Hover it to see what a click will do.
One platform is on by default: the first one in the view you are signed in to, in the order Twitch, YouTube, Kick. Sending to several platforms at once is something you choose each time, because a message posted in three chats cannot be taken back.
- A platform you are not signed in to shows faded, and hovering it says “not signed in”.
- The buttons only appear when there is a choice: several platforms, or one you are not signed in to.
- Turn every button off and nothing is sent. The box says “Pick a platform to send to”. Press Enter anyway and your text stays, with “Not sent — no platform is picked to send to.”
- If you are signed in to none of the view’s platforms, the box says, for example, “Sign in on Twitch, YouTube or Kick to send”, and a Sign in… button opens Accounts.
- Your choice holds while the view is open. Konflux does not keep it after a restart.
Character limits

Sending to several platforms at once, the strictest limit applies.
Twitch’s rate limit
Section titled “Twitch’s rate limit”Konflux lets each account send at most 20 Twitch messages in 30 seconds, or 100 in channels where you are the broadcaster, a moderator or a VIP, as Twitch allows. The next one is refused with “slow down —” and how many seconds are left, so Twitch never sees you go over its limit.
YouTube’s daily budget
Section titled “YouTube’s daily budget”YouTube charges each message 50 units from a budget of 10,000 a day, which is about 200 messages. Each moderation action on YouTube costs 50 as well. The budget starts again at midnight Pacific time. Reading YouTube chat normally costs nothing.
- Konflux counts what this computer spends. Once less than a tenth of the day’s budget is left, a banner says, for example, “YouTube’s daily budget is nearly spent — about 20 more messages today. It resets at midnight Pacific.” It says so once a day.
- To turn the banner off, use Settings › Platforms › Warn when the YouTube daily budget runs low (on by default).
- When the budget would run out, Konflux refuses the message rather than sending it.

Replying
Section titled “Replying”- Point at the message and click the arrow button on its right (Reply). Or point at it and press R.
- A strip above the box says “Replying to” and the name, with the start of their message.
- Type and press Enter. To cancel, click the ✕ on the strip (Cancel reply).
- A reply goes only to the platform the message came from, and only for that message. The platform buttons are hidden while you reply, and your usual choice comes back afterwards.
- Twitch and Kick have real replies. Other people see what you are answering.
- YouTube has no replies. Konflux starts your message with @ and their name instead, unless you started it with @ yourself.
- To reply on a platform, you need to be signed in there. If you are not, nothing can be sent, and the box says where to sign in, for example “Sign in on YouTube to reply”.
The R key can be changed under Settings › Moderation › Moderation keys. It works for everyone, not only moderators.
Emotes

Section titled “The emote picker”Click the smiley at the right of the box (Emotes).
- Type in Search emotes to look through every set at once. Enter inserts the first match.
- Or browse the tabs: Channel (the emotes of this view’s chats, with Recently used at the top), Global and Favourites.
- The column on the left jumps to a set. Each set is named by its provider and its chat, such as “7TV · examplestreamer”.
- Click an emote to put it in your message.
- Right-click an emote to keep it as a favourite. A dot in its corner marks it. Right-click again to remove it.
- Escape closes the picker.
The picker lists 7TV, BetterTTV and FrankerFaceZ emotes. It appears only when the message has somewhere to go.
Completing as you type
Section titled “Completing as you type”A list of suggestions appears above the box. Tab or Enter takes the highlighted one, the arrow keys move through the list, and Escape closes it.

Emote completion offers the same 7TV, BetterTTV and FrankerFaceZ emotes as the picker.
Slash commands
Section titled “Slash commands”Type / at the start of the box to see every command, with what it needs after it. /help shows the same list.
Konflux never sends a line starting with / as a message. A command it does not know is refused with “There is no /… — nothing was sent.” A command missing a part says what it needs, and your text stays in the box to fix. To send a message that really starts with a slash, type two: //.

The answer to a command appears in a line above the box. Moderator and broadcaster commands are on Commands.
What you see after sending
Section titled “What you see after sending”Sending to one platform
Section titled “Sending to one platform”Your message appears in the chat at once, dimmed, before the platform has confirmed it. Just above the box, “sending…” shows while Konflux waits.
When the platform sends your message back into the chat, the dimmed line becomes an ordinary one, with your badges and your name colour. “sent” shows just above the box for a few seconds.
If the platform never sends it back, the line stops looking dimmed after 20 seconds. It was still sent.
Sending to several platforms at once
Section titled “Sending to several platforms at once”You get one line with one platform mark for each platform. Each mark is faint until that platform confirms, then turns solid. Just above the box, each platform’s answer is named, such as “Twitch: sent”.
When a platform refuses
Section titled “When a platform refuses”- That platform’s mark on your line turns red, and the reason appears at the end of the line.
- Just above the box, the reason shows in red, and stays until you send again.
- Your text stays in the box if any platform refused it. If another platform took it, only the platforms that refused are left on, so pressing Enter tries just those again.
The reason is the platform’s own words or Konflux’s. For example:

If Konflux’s background process restarts while a message is on its way, the box says it “may have been sent”, because the answer was lost.
Not yet
Section titled “Not yet”- Remembering which platforms you last sent to for each streamer. Today one platform is on by default each time Konflux starts.
/me,/colorand whispers (/w). Konflux answers “There is no /me — nothing was sent.”- The platforms’ own emotes in the picker and in completion. Only 7TV, BetterTTV and FrankerFaceZ emotes are listed there.
